DIY Unicorn Floral Crown

DIY Unicorn Floral Crown

For each birthday I created a themed photo shoot for invitations. It’s a little extra, but so much fun. I’ve done everything from Snow White to Doc McStuffins, but I think this years’ shoot will be my favorite. This year our theme is unicorns and I am so stinking excited!

Birthday pictures are this weekend, and I’ve got the perfect set up planned, including a pony! Until then, here’s a sneak peak of part of my girls ensemble…this precious unicorn floral crown!

It was so incredibly easy to make and cheap too! It literally took me like 5 minutes and everything came from Amazon or the Dollar store. The complete materials I used for this probably cost me less than $2. Of course I have tons of leftovers, which I plan on incorporating into different floral headpieces. Now that I know how easy these are, I might not be able to stop making them!

Step 1: Measure and cut your wire

You will need to measure the circumference of the head you are creating this for. I made mine slightly larger as I wanted it to rest on her head like a crown would. Once you have measured it, you will need to cut three pieces the same length out of the floral wire. You will need some pretty heavy duty scissors. A wire cutter is ideal but not necessary.

Step 2: Connect and twist your wires.

I started by securing the ends of one side of the wires. I tightly twisted them together until they were interlocked and could not easily come undone. I then started weaving the vines through each other loosely. I didn’t really follow a pattern, more or less switched up a braid by alternating sides to keep it loose. It is very important that you keep the wires loose enough that you will be able to stick flowers through. This will help keep them secured to your crown.

Step 3: Hot glue flowers and horn

Keeping the wires loose will allow you to easily slide the flowers in. I cut small sections off the stems I got from the Dollar Tree. I then slide those in through the spaces and pressed down to help hold the flowers in place

Afterwards, I cut off the excess that was poking through. I then used a generous amount of glue, all around the base of the flower to secure it in place. I wanted to be sure that there were no long ends poking out that could scratch little heads! I repeated this process for the whole crown, allowing space in between the flowers so some of the wrapped wire would show through.

The very last touch was the adorable unicorn horn. This was actually pulled off of a headband I got from the Dollar Spot in Target. They were the in the Halloween stuff this fall. The headbands were not well made and falling apart, but I instantly thought of this project! It worked perfectly. However, you could also easily create your own horn of ouf something like Styrofoam and glittered felt.

And there you have it! I told y’all this was insanely easy! I can’t speak to the durability of it, as we’re saving it to be used for pictures. I did get a little trigger happy and made my oldest go model for a few pics which you can see below. I’m in love with the way it turned out and how it compliments her outfit! Be sure to follow me on Facebook to see when the final birthday images are released!

And stay tuned. I’m in full force party planning mode and making tons of decorations for this little shindig! I’ll have tons of unicorn stuff coming at you the next few weeks.
