Free Reading Strategy Posters and Lessons! Complete Series!

If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen my multi-part series on teaching letters and sounds, print concepts and reading behaviors, and sight words. These are all part of a bigger picture, an entire reading curriculum for beginning readers!

As a veteran teacher of over 10 years, turned stay at home Mom, I just couldn’t turn my teacher brain off. My oldest has a late birthday, and wasn’t eligible for kindergarten this past year, but had expressed a strong desire to learn how to read. So, I dipped into my teacher trunk of treasures and developed an instructional plan based on my many years of experience.

She has started reading and has begun to need the support of strategies to help her decode words. So we are slowly introducing strategies and applying them in our reading lessons.

There are typically 7 reading strategies used in kindergarten classrooms. However, after years of teaching kindergarten and first grade, I found my students had more needs than these strategies addressed. So after a little research, I added 3 more that addressed some problems I was seeing.

So in an effort to help out other Moms wanting to teach their kids to read, I’m sharing my free posters, explaining why they are important, how to introduce them, and also providing tons of helpful ways to practice them.

Each strategy has it’s own unique post, as it was too much information to compile in one post.  I’ve included the links below:

Eagle Eye

Lips the Fish

Stretchy Snake

Chunky Monkey

Flippy Dolphin

Skippy Frog

Wise Owl

Rhyming Rabbit

Cover It Chameleon

Tryin’ Lion

Several of these contain additional free printables too! I’ve got a much bigger project for this in the works but it’s going to take some time, so be sure to subscribe to my email list for updates as I progress!

Until then, please enjoy these free resources! Don’t hesitate to email me with questions, or just to say hello. My absolute favorite thing is getting emails from readers telling me how the lessons are working with their own kiddos!
