In this house we do unicorns.  Lots and lots of unicorns!

My equine obsessed oldest has branched out into the world of unicorns and I.absolutely.love.it!!!  I’m currently in the very early stages of planning my girls 2nd and 5th birthday party and the them is unicorns.  More to come on that later.

Anyways…So as we look at this week’s letter u lesson plan, you are lucky I don’t have you reading unicorn books and doing unicorn crafts all week long.  Though that does sound like an awesome weekly theme.  True, it may be lacking in educational value but how amazingly fun would it be?

For now though, you’ll have to settle for plan on letter U.  Don’t worry this week’s lesson plans still have lots of cute crafts!

I know I’ve said it a thousand times, but the flashcards are crucial to this series.  Sometimes there’s just no substitute for route memorization!  I explain it more here.

This week’s flashcard should be practiced, “u-umbrella-/u/.”

Letter U Crafts

With summer in our sights it seems like all things creepy crawly are re-emerging.  This fun little craft seemed appropriate right now.  My girls dubbed it the “underground ick.”

You can grab my free u template here or by clicking below.  For the green part, I just glued some green construction paper on top that I’d cut up with scissors.

We found the fun stickers super cheap on Amazon.  We have plenty left over for our summer insects unit.

One of our favorite things to do in summer is hit the beach!  I can’t wait to soak up the sun while listening to waves crash on the shore.  This cute underwater craft was a fun reminder of all the fun creatures that live in the sea!

The cute ocean animals stickers came from Amazon.  They were in a pack of 75 so there are plenty left over for other fun ocean crafts.  We also have an entire week of lessons dedicated to ocean animals here.

This craft was also a good vocabulary activity for my girls.  They have never seen a unicycle so we looked up some information and discussed the ways it differs from a bike.
