DIY Little Mermaid Birthday Party

Looking to throw the best DIY Little Mermaid Birthday party under the sea?  Check out this cute and easy birthday bash that’s sure to be a hit for any Mermaid lover!

My birthday girl has been obsessed with Ariel for a couple of years now.  Back before we visited Disney we were discussing our favorite Disney princess and she was very offended that we didn’t all choose Ariel. She vehemently declared the Little Mermaid to be the best of all the Disney princesses and vowed to never change her mind.

And so far she’s stuck by it.

She’s watched the movie 50 million times, asked for nothing but Little Mermaid toys for her birthday, all the Little Mermaid clothes, and even requested the theme of her party be The Little Mermaid.

So of course I was determined to throw her the DIY Little Mermaid Birthday party of her dreams!

I had more ideas than I had money so I had to settle for a few inexpensive decorations from Amazon and create the rest out of what I had on hand.  The end result was super adorable and more importantly, easy on my wallet.

Little Mermaid Birthday Outfit

We found a super cute outfit on Amazon she loved with a mermaid print tulle skirt.  It came with an Ariel shirt but she asked me to make her a special birthday shirt instead.

She helped with a few design aspects like glitter on almost everything.  Not our most complex creation, but she loves it to this day!

How adorable is her little snaggle tooth smile?  Where does the time go?

Little Mermaid Party Food

As I mentioned in the last post, this birthday party was another party shared with her sister.  We rented the local skating rink for a few hours and invited all our friends and families.

Instead of doing all the food one theme, I split the party food between both themes.  I stucky with pretty simple food ideas like these cute crab-witches that were super easy and a big hit.

These clam shell cookies were also quick, easily and delicious!

I whipped up some super easy icing and colored it aqua-blue.  Then I piped it in between two Nilla Wafers and added a pink candy pearl between.  In hindsight I’d have refrigerated the icing overnight because they were a little more melty than I’d have liked.

Fish and Chips was the simplest recipe of the day! I just mixed some lays and goldfish!  This bowl was completely empty by the end of the party!

Like I said in her sister’s post, I procrastinated way too long this year and had to order a cake from Sams.  However, I was so pleased with the result (and the price) that this may be my go to next year.

Espcially if I can pick a design from their book like I was able to this year! This mermaid cake was straight out of their design book.

I designed the cake toppers in my Silhouette Software.  They are much simpler than they seem.  I just typed the font I wanted and then ungrouped and rearranged the letters so they could be welded.  I love the end result!

DIY Little Mermaid Birthday Party Decorations

One of my favorite decorations was actually recycled from my youngest’s 1st birthday which was a Beauty and the Beast themed bash.

In that party it was a framed Silhouette of Belle.  I swapped out the cardstock with a purple Glittery Arield and painted the frame Aqua.  Now it’s a super cute addition to our playroom!

I had some small glass bowls that I just weighted down with glass beads from the Dollar Tree.  My daughter’s favorite souveiner from Disney was a small set of Ariel figures (also sold on Amazon).  I added those to the jars and put some fun tin squiggly streamers (Dollar Tree) in the back to look like coral.

I also found some inexpensive, foam coral pieces on Amazon.  These added alot of cute color to the tables!

These vases were another dollar tree find.  I’d hoped to fill them completely with seashells but underestimated how many I needed and had to add the blue beads.  In hindsight I’d choose one or the other.

The cutouts were quick and easy on my Silhoutte.  I added some more foam coral and it came out pretty cute!

This sign was a small Dollar Tree chalkboard sign.  I painted it and added some vinyl.

Ursale is a bath toy from a set I think we got at Walmart.

This printable on Etsy was affordable, printable file off of Etsy that I popped in a white frame.   It’s now another cute playroom decoration!

Ariel was propped up against the frame but at some point she got exhausted by the party chaos and just laid down.

Little Mermaid Party Favors

I needed something simple and also procrastinated on this one but it was Amazon for the win!  These adorable mermaid pop-its were a hit!  I loved these so much, our Valentine’s will be be mini pop-it too!  Stay tuned for that free printable post coming soon!
